Obesity is a condition of excess fat deposition in the body, which is characterized by overweight. Different people can have different types of obesity. Even though a cut-and-dried classification of obesity is hard, we can categorize obesity based on many factors such as shape, age and weight of the people, cell condition of the body etc.

Types of obesity based on the distribution of fat

Obesity based on the fat distribution is characterized by the parts of the body that have fat deposits. There are three types of obesity in this category.

Explanation on Types of Obesity

Android type: Android obesity mainly occurs in men. It may appear in women, who have undergone menopause. In this type, fat is deposited at the top of the body that gives an apple to the body. Those with android type are at risk for having many diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke. However, these people can easily lose weight with proper diet and regular exercise.

Gynoid type: In this type of obesity, fat deposition is found in the lower body, i.e., around the hips, abdomen, thighs and buttocks. It gives a pear shape to the body of the patient. Gynoid type mainly occurs in women. Kidneys, intestines, uterus, bladder and bowls are the vital organs affected by this disease. As person grows old, the spine is never erect due to heavy thighs and hips. Weight reduction will be more difficult to do.

The third type: Some people neither belongs to android or to gynoid. In this third type of obesity, the whole body from head to toe looks like a barrel. The fat tissues in their body resist the movements of all internal organs. It affects their brisk functioning. Enormous size of the body makes them unable to do any exercise. But, strict diet and plenty of exercise is the only remedy in this situation.

Types of obesity according to levels of weight

This type of obesity is divided according to how big the overweight owned by a person. The higher is the levels, the greater will be the risk.

Simple obesity: 20 % excess weight than ideal body weight without hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia
Mild obesity: 20-30% excess weight than normal body weight that has not been accompanied by a particular disease, but caution should be taken
Moderate obesity: 30-60% excess weight than ideal body weight that is susceptible to diseases associated with obesity
Morbid obesity: overweight than ideal body weight with very high risk of heart failure, respiratory disease and sudden death

Types of obesity according to cell conditions

There are three types of obesity according to the condition of the cells based on the size of fat cells in the body.

Hyper plastic type: Excess number of fat cells with the same size of normal fat cells causes hyper plastic type of obesity. It is usually found in children. Weight is comparatively difficult to reduce. Even though it is reduced temporarily, the patient may return to original form.

Hyper trophic type: In this type of obesity, the fat cells are bigger, even though their number is equal to the amount of normal fat cells. It mainly occurs in adults and weight can be easily reduced. Patients with hyper trophic obesity are highly susceptible to high blood pressure and diabetes.

Combination of both: The combination of both previous types occurs in some people. In such cases, the number of fat cells is numerous and they have larger size than normal fat cells. It may appear in children and adults. As weight loss in very difficult in this type, the patients may vulnerable to diabetes, hyper tension and coronary heart disease.

The types of obesity are not as significant as the steps a patient can take to get control of his body and his health once again.
